Q: How much does it cost to be a member of Dinner at Eight?
There is a setup cost and registration fee. Ask us about our different levels of membership. Once registered, dinner evenings will commence and based on you updating your availability, you will be offered a number of invitations. For each dinner booking accepted and confirmed there is a booking fee of $35. Each diner then receives their own bill at the restaurant on the evening at the end of the event. Q: What does the membership cover?
Dinner at Eight’s fee covers operating costs associated with arranging dinner parties and events. At the dinner, diners only for pay for what they eat and drink. Separate bills are provided for each diner.


Q: How does Dinner at Eight match people for dinners?
Based upon the members who have notified Dinner at Eight of their availability for each planned dinner, we form the most cohesive dinner party of six based on age range, shared interests and common backgrounds. Our sophisticated database ensures that we monitor how often you are matched for a table with people of the opposite gender whom you’ve already met.


Q: How much are the meals?
Generally the price range for a main course is between $20- $39.


Q: Where are the dinners held?
We use restaurants throughout Melbourne, in areas such as Hawthorn, Prahran, South Melbourne, Richmond, Armadale and Carlton. Restaurants are chosen from a variety of ways, including the "Age Good Food Guide" , Epicure,  member recommendations, and locations. We personally visit each restaurant to ensure they're suitable for our clients. Restaurants are selected on the basis of value for money and quality of service.


Q: When are the dinners?
Dinner at Eight holds dinners and events throughout the month, mostly Fridays and Saturdays and occasional Thursdays and Sunday lunches. We host them on weeknights and weekends to accommodate everyone's schedules.


Q: How are groups put together?
All dinner club members are interviewed so we get to meet you personally. Everyone must also provide personal ID to verify their identity. We put together our dinner parties based on age and the interests in your profile and try to structure a diverse group with complementary interests.


Q: What should I wear?
As a general rule, "business casual" or “after five” will be acceptable wherever your dinner is located. We suggest you wear something appropriate and comfortable for a first date. Look your best – first impressions do count!


Q: What happens if I meet someone at the dinner that I would like to meet again?
Members typically exchange names and phone numbers after the dinner. If you miss an opportunity, simply contact us at Dinner at Eight and we'll contact your new friend. With your consent, we'll send them your preferred contact phone number or email address. Under all other circumstances, our members’ personal information is strictly confidential.
It is each members' sole responsibility to personally meet any individual and evaluate the member as to their suitability for any continued interaction. Although it is our hope to provide interesting and compatible people to meet, Dinner at Eight makes no representations or warranties regarding character and background of its members.

Q: Can I join with a friend?

It is Dinner at Eight's recommendation not to seat friends together at a table, to ensure that all participants interact with each other on common ground.


Q: What if I need to cancel a confirmed dinner reservation?
It can be very disappointing to be at a table designed for a group of six when one member cancels. If our office knows in advance, we can usually fill empty seats with other compatible members. Since we want the best possible experience for our members, we have implemented the policy below:
We require five (5) working days notice or you will lose your booking fee. If you no-show at the event and do not notify our office or restaurant of your absence, you will incur a $30 no-show fee in addition to loss of a dinner from your count of guaranteed dinners.


Q: Is Dinner at Eight a dating service?
No. Dinner at Eight's purpose is to introduce single professionals with similar interests who enjoy good food, good conversation and a good time. We consider ourselves a dinner club. We plan a full schedule of dinners two to three weeks in advance. Members meet others who like to do the same things they enjoy. Face-to-face dinner parties provide a stress-free foundation for starting relationships and letting members get to know each other through participating in fun events.
Group activities ensure a non-threatening, no pressure environment.


Q: What ages do you accept?
In general we target singles ages 28-65+. Age is one of the most important factors when determining who to introduce you to.


Q: Why wasn't I selected or invited to join the event on some of the dates that I am available?
Based on your availability, we offer you dinners in order to form the most compatible group, we must seat members in groups of six according to gender, availability, and other common factors. Dinner at Eight would not want to seat you at an event that would not be enjoyable for you! We match dinner parties according to the interests that you indicated in your member profile.


Q: Can I upgrade to Gold or Platinum Card Membership?

Yes, you can upgrade at any time, please call Dinner at Eight to arrange a suitable time for your consultation. You can choose Gold Card or Platinum service for group dinners of four or six or you may prefer the Personal Referral Service. This is arranged as a Dinner for Two or a One-on-One service. A combination of the two services is also available. We offer personalized service to suit your every need.
